About This Wine

This wine showcases a deep color and a slightly astringent character when young, with vibrant flavors of black and red cherries, dried blueberries, a hint of cocoa, and a long, captivating finish.

About This Producer

The Grasso brothers have a long history in winemaking, dating back to before they established their family winery in 1970. They have been farming the same land and crafting wine from it continuously for over 50 years. Their commitment to tradition is evident during a walk through their vineyards, located just behind the winery, which was converted from an old family barn. Though they don't speak English, their welcoming smiles and easy-going nature make visitors feel at home. Using large Slavonian oak barrels, some over 45 years old, their winemaking methods have remained largely unchanged for decades. Their primary vineyard holdings are in the Vallegrande cru, which spans elevations from 900 to 1300 feet. Here, Alfredo and Luigi produce their flagship wine, aged for 30 to 48 months in these time-honored barrels.

The Barbaresco region, often dubbed the 'Queen' of the Nebbiolo grape, is celebrated for its elegant wines, distinct from the more robust Barolo. Barbaresco, one-third the size of Barolo, achieved DOC status in 1966 and was later awarded DOCG status, Italy's highest designation, in 1980.
