For a cook who likes a heavier apron at the grill, the Waxman offers a substantial layer of soy-wax-coated cotton canvas. Hedley & Bennett's Montana version has an adjustable neck strap, waist ties and front pockets for the tools you want close by. Montana pairs a warm brown body with darker waist ties and brown neck detailing.

We like the Waxman for people who appreciate waxed fabric and are happy to care for it a little differently. This apron is a wipe-clean piece: sponge it with cold water, hang it to dry and reapply canvas wax as needed. It must not go in the washing machine. Choose it for regular outdoor cooking or a busy kitchen workbench.

Preserve the waxed cotton finish with wipe-clean care. Sponge wipe with cold water only. Hang dry. Do not wash or bleach. Reapply canvas wax as needed.
