This elegant and balanced red wine is produced by Domaine de Marcoux, a historic estate located just north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape in the Rhône Valley, France. The estate is run by the Armenier family, who have been pioneers in organic and biodynamic farming since 1991. The Domaine is known for its meticulous attention to detail in both the vineyard and the cellar, producing wines that are true reflections of their terroir.

The Côtes-du-Rhône is primarily composed of Grenache, with smaller amounts of Syrah and Mourvèdre, sourced from two specific parcels in the municipality of Orange: Maucoil and Bois Lauzon. The grapes are hand-harvested, double sorted, and fermented using only native yeasts. The wine is aged in concrete vats for about 10 months, allowing the purity of the fruit to shine through.

This wine showcases a deep ruby color with an aromatic bouquet of red fruits, such as cherry and raspberry, along with notes of spice and garrigue. On the palate, it is lithe and spicy, with a harmonious blend of fruit, fine tannins, and a touch of earthiness. The finish is long and elegant, making this a wine that can be enjoyed now or cellared for a few years.

Pairings

This versatile Côtes-du-Rhône is a perfect match for a variety of dishes. It pairs wonderfully with roasted meats, especially lamb or beef, and is equally at home with grilled sausages or vegetable stews. The wine’s spicy and herbal notes make it an excellent companion to Mediterranean cuisine, such as ratatouille or stuffed peppers. For cheese lovers, try it with aged Gouda or a creamy Brie to bring out its subtle complexities. Perfect for a cozy dinner with friends or a relaxed evening at home. -AO
